"Lovers of American art songs won't want to pass this up. 9 (Artistic quality) / 9 (Sound Quality)"

Music of William Bolcom, all recorded for the first time. The recording begins with two song cycles written for and sung by soprano Benita Valente: first, the cantata "Let Evening Come" for soprano, viola and piano written to poetry by Maya Angelou, Emily Dickinson and Jane Kenyon (in memory of Tatiana Troyanos ). The recording continues with "Briefly It Enters" written to poetry of Jane Kenyon; Ms. Valente is accompanied by pianist Cynthia Raim; the first cycle also features violist Michael Tree. The CD concludes with two new books of cabaret songs with texts by Arnold Weinstein and performed by Joan Morris, mezzo-soprano and the composer at the piano.
